Passive Solar

There is a certain amount of confusion over this term, sometimes with ‘eco’ and ‘sustainable’ buzz words used. As the name implies, passive solar is a system of ‘design elements’ that provide collection and storage of the suns heat while controlling heat loss and overheating. This is achieved by employing techniques such as super insulation, conservatories, earth berming and the ‘envelope’ house or combinations of these.

Additional options include solar water and other heating, photo voltaic cells and personal wind generators, while new technologies are being continuously developed. The result is more even year-round temperatures with minimal additional heating at relatively little extra cost.

This can be achieved without compromising the aesthetic appeal and liveability of the building. Depending on the design features included, costs and results will vary but an attractive and comfortable home will be the result.
