Profile

After initial technical training Jon worked for several architectural firms in New Zealand and Australia before starting his own practice, Jon Aldridge Design Ltd., in 1976. His work was primarily in the residential and commercial field and included design work for a development company.

The practice has grown to incorporate all types of projects including hill homes, country houses and industrial and commercial projects such as the the Hornby Dressmart complex. The practice has recently undergone a change of name to Aldridge Architecture Ltd. to better reflect the scope of his work.

Jon was a founding member of the Canterbury branch of the ADNZ organisation in 1982, and has been closely involved administratively at both branch and national level. Over the years a number of his design projects have been recognised at the annual ADNZ design awards.

Jon has long been interested in the practical and ecological advantages of passive solar design in houses and has studied the design elements that contribute to the effectiveness of the process. He believes many of the elements can be advantageously included in many house designs without compromising the practicality and aesthetic appeal of the building.

As building a new home is one of the biggest and most complicated projects facing most people Jon aims to create an open and harmonious working relationship with the client in order to make the experience as pleasant and stress-free as possible.
